Sudan: Oil output planned to rise to 450,000 b/d by end of 2005
Suna News Agency, August 12

Khartoum, 12 August: The secretary-general of the Ministry of Energy and Mining, Hasan Muhammad Ali al-Tawm, announced that the ministry's plan for the coming stage includes intensifying the oil exploration work and increasing the oil production to 450,000 b/d by the end of the year 2005.

This came in a lecture Al-Tawm gave before the National Congress' Economic Sector's Conference on Saturday 11 August.

He indicated that the plan aims also at development of the oil industry to make added value for the Sudanese crude, and assist the attraction of investors to explore oil in central, north, eastern and western Sudan.

Al-Tawm has shed light on the economic, strategic and technological dimensions of the oil industry in the country. He said that positive aspects of the oil industry included providing sufficient petroleum materials to boost the production process in the country, and enhancement of the balance of payment and reducing the migration of qualified Sudanese cadres.
