Tokyo stocks tumble by midday, hit fresh 16-yr low
TOKYO, Aug 13 (Reuters) - Tokyo stocks took a two percent dive by midday on Monday, with several tech issues punished after two core domestic players -- Advantest Corp and Rohm Co Ltd -- unveiled profit warnings late last week.

Advantest, Japan's top maker of semiconductor testing devices, plunged 6.03 percent to 7,950 yen, helping send the tech-sensitive Nikkei share average down 243.76 points or 2.08 percent at 11,491.30 at midday.

The Nikkei had fallen as low as 11,417.70 by mid-morning, down 2.7 percent from the previous close, breaching the previous year-to-date intraday low marked several weeks before reformist Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi took office in April.

It was the lowest level since December 13, 1984 when the Nikkei closed at 11,340.05.
