Many people, including me, think Abe Lincoln ruined America. Before then, and according to the constitution, the role of the federal government was extremely limited. Lincoln changed all that. I'm sure he had the best of intentions but with those best intentions he put into place everything the founding fathers had tried so hard to avoid. The southern states said "stay out of our business." They didn't think the civil war was about slavery, they thought it was about states rights according to the constitution. But the winner gets to write history, so now it has turned out it was about slavery.(Slavery was and is an abomination). Anyway, after that the Federal government has steadily taken control until our situation now in which we have states passing laws, such as medical marijuana (and one million other things), and the federal government over-ruling them. Timothy McVeigh said he took an oath to the constitution and in his mind he was abiding by that oath by attempting to damage the Federal government, much more than he felt he was doing by protecting corporate profits in Kuwait. Sure cold-blooded killing is wrong, but was it more wrong in Kuwait or in Oklahoma? Anyway the media will make sure none of this is ever really discussed, after all the real burning issue today is Chandra Levy.
