They did not reject it violently. That is a misstatement. They were moving towards agreement when they reacted to the blatant provocation of A. Sharon.

They rejected it. Sharon may have been provocative but he didn't start the violence. He talked in an area that contains important religious sites for both the Arabs and the Jews. He didn't seize control of the Dome of the Rock and then give his speach there he spoke near it. Anyone who considers that enough provocation to justify a campaign of violence is just being unreasonable.
