Not many people at all have argued for outlawing the research of even the creation of new embryos for research purposes.

In all this discussion, I've not heard any. On the Sunday morning talk shows, there were a number of pointed questions asked of the Administration's representatives. Basically, they wanted to know, if destroying embryos was so bad, would the Administration move to make all research on stem cells illegal or disallow fertility clinics, which also destroy embryos, or outlaw the destruction of embryos by fertility clinics. Lots of ducking and weaving ensued. My conclusion was that the Administration didn't want to fund the destruction of embryos but that they wouldn't move to stop it, either.
