The ‘virology’ post you referred IS funny, and contains a large amount of truth.
Gilder Technology Report is in essence a think tank publication that took the appearance of an investment letter. With their ‘top down’ approach, they first identify the technologies most likely to become most central and successful, and then begin to look for companies that best fit the profile.
This approach did wonders during the expansion and the Bull market, because subscribers often found themselves ahead of major moves (QCOM, JDSU, many others). Then, after the collapse of the bubble and during the Bear market, many LTBH investors found their portfolios decimated.
I had a chance to meet GG, and he is a wonderfully bright guy. I consider him a man of great personal integrity, and I think that all ad hominem attacks against him are laughable. He is what he is, he works very hard, and he speaks his mind. I know of no other person who was able to understand the ENTIRE puzzle of modern technology as well as George, and in such depth.
As far as the Report is concerned, if someone wants to use it for education, insight, ideas to follow (and time), it is, IMO, a good value. On the other hand, if one wants to use it to pick stocks in a Bear market, then… well… no comment… If worse comes to worse, there is always a Welfare Department somewhere in town… ;-) |
