PCCW Looks to Rehash Content Contract

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hong Kong-based Internet and telco Pacific Century Cyberworks is looking to renegotiate a 10-year contract it has with a London-based content supplier for its Network of the World (NOW) broadband channel, according to a report today (August 13) in the South China Morning Post.

PCCW said that 300 staff at the London company Trans World International (TWI), an arm of Mark McCormack’s International Management Group, alongside 30 PCCW employees are working on English language PCCW programs and website content. That is despite the fact that NoW International no longer features in PCCW’s revised business strategy.

"They want to get out of the contract but it is watertight" a source close to SCMP reported. Cyberworks said that TWI produced NOW’s programs and Web content on a cost-plus fees for services basis. It is rumored that PCCW is paying around US$10 mil. per month to TWI for the programming production, as agreed upon when the contract was initially inked in ’99.
