HK PRESS:PCCW Says No Plans To Cut Jobs At The Moment Dow Jones Newswires HONG KONG -- Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. (PCW) reiterated it has no plans to cut more jobs at the moment, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday. Her remarks were in response to a report in Oriental Daily News that PCCW is to announce plans to cut almost 3000 jobs next Thursday. The paper quotes a PCCW employee Web site that says it will cost PCCW HK$1 billion to trim 3000 jobs. PCCW announced 340 job cuts July 4 in its Internet division. Speculation has been rife for months that more cuts are in the works as the one-year anniversary of the PCCW takeover approaches in August. PCCW Chairman Richard Li said at the time of the HKT acquisition from Cable&Wireless that there would be no job cuts in the workforce during the first year of operations.
