That IBM news is a financial hit for AMD, but even more it is a marketing and perception hit. The other OEM's will see the momentum shifting away from AMD; thinking "do we really need a second supplier?".

I could imagine HWP and/or Compaq dropping AMD for the US market, I can't imagine both. Memories of the chip shortage should keep Gateway in a dual supplier mode.

Could AMD eventually become an overseas chip company, with the vast majority of it's products sold in European and Asian markets?

Maybe they should move to Germany, rather than Austin.
