Communications Watch: Radio-free America
Article in the August 13 Red Herring by Dan Briody
redherring.com
Excerpt: But the FCC says that allowing a company to bid $4.7 billion on spectrum, pay
only a fraction of the money owed, declare bankruptcy, then restructure and
keep the spectrum amidst one of the most competitive and constrained markets
in the country sets a dangerous precedent. The FCC is right. It's not fair, and
it's not in the best interests of the wireless industry, which is buckling in the U.S.
because of a lack of this valuable resource. NextWave had its shot and blew it.
Now divvy up its stuff and let the real businesses get on with it. Let's hope the
Supreme Court sees it that way too.
