Professor Yezid Sayigh, who served as an advisor to the Palestinian negotiating team at Camp David, thinks that Arafat did not actually order the start of the intifada, but quickly gave it a green light and "hitch-hiked a ride" on it to try to escape his tactical difficulties.

If he can't control the violence then what is negotiating with him supposed to achieve? If Israel gets agreement with him but the violence and terror continues (commited by those that hope to push Israel to the sea) then what does Israel gain? I hope he can control the violence, who else would Israel negotiate with?
