I think I have a way of expressing our exasperation at Bramson:

A lot of people were fooled by the Internet Bubble...a lot of very astute businessmen and others. Bramson wasn't fooled by the Internet Bubble. (i.e., he may have headed the company in a way that would have capitalized on the Internet, but he did not "play the game" the way it was played, he played it like a brick and morter business.)

So there is no excuse that it's collapse caught him by surprise.
