Oh, I get it now.

Actually, given that your mom didn't pay estate taxes on your dad's half of the house, I didn't think that she would be permitted to step up the basis on any of the property.

But heck, there are probably a lot of people at SI that would know better than I would, and you probably dealt with an advisor then that also knew better.
