Very strange how a person can claim to be tolerant about deviant lifestyles or political beliefs but so intolerant about religion.

Tolerance has nothing to do with approval. It is easy to tolerate things we approve of; the test of tolerance comes when we are faced with things we don't like.

I don't care much for religion, but I'd be the last to say that the practice of religion should be in any way restrained, except to the extent that its practice interferes with the rights of others. If someone announces that their religion is "the truth"; I may dispute that claim. If someone claims that religious people are better behaved, more moral, or make better neighbors than non-religious people, I will dispute that claim. If someone desires public subsidy for their religion, I will certainly oppose that. If someone waves their religion in the face of others I will consider that action to be tasteless, and say so. But I don't see that any of this constitutes intolerance.

And by the way, what exactly is a deviant lifestyle? A lifestyle that deviates from... from what? From your preferences?
