re: the grizzly is on the endangered species list because of indiscriminate hunting

Actually, most researchers will say it's due to habitat destruction. All those damned bunny huggers buying five acre lots in the country.

I agree but that's now.....I was speaking of 150 years ago when it was the indiscriminate hunting for bear rugs etc that began the reduction of their population.

I imagine the hunters of 150 years ago would be amazed that the grizzly is threatened with extinction. In the last few years, grizzlies and black bears have been going into the small towns of BC and Alaska, foraging for food and terrorizing the residents. The dwindling salmon populations are the cause. Many are being killed by the townspeople or die of malnutrition.

And there are only 1000 panda bears left in the world....they were hunted indiscriminately by the Chinese for years. Who knew that they wouldn't procreate fast enough to slake our thirst for hunting.

My point is that so much damage has been done in the past 500 years by mankind, that we can't afford to screw around. Unfortunately, there are many people who don't understand and/or don't care.
