Below is a DIRECT response from SMUD in answer to the (MISLEADING) price/kilowatt hours examples posted by The Cato Institute! I enquired directy to SMUD and asked this question... "There are current accusations that Sacramento Municipal Utility District has recently charged the state of California an average of $292 per megawatt-hour - higher than most out-of-state power providers. Can you tell me the relative amounts of power you provide the state and direct me to any SMUD comments in regards to these charges? Thanks, xxx Here is part of SMUD's reply... xxx, "SMUD sold the State limited quantities of energy during brief on-peak, super-peak and emergency-shortage hours, as compared to private generators who apparently sold larger quantities of power on a continual basis. SMUD’s total sales to DWR during the reporting period were less than half of one percent of total DWR purchases. Juxtaposing the pricing of such a small quantity of peak-hour power against the pricing of large quantities of baseload bulk power is meaningless. It is far more relevant to focus on cost and profit margins to determine if “price gouging” has occurred. The Cato Institute has INDEED posted POLITICALY MOTIVATED MISLEADING Information!
