Charles Gryba:

"quit it with the conspiracy theories. IBM was not selling enough AMD to justify the costs of having 2 platforms. To be honest with you, I think Intel is putting the squeeze on AMD and unless AMD has a couple of speed grades ready soon they will hurt."

INTC is in a whole lot of hurt when AMD cracks the corporate market...INTC's last ditch defense may just be to buy off N/A the corporate channels of distribution by offering P4's at loss leader pricing in hopes that a short term P4 margin hit will stymie, once and for all, AMD's attempted incursion into the N/A corporate marketplace by buying INTC the necessary time in which to get the P4's price/performance up to AMD's...I remain unconvinced that the P4 will be able to keep pace with AMD on a price/performance basis...How much "red" INTC will have to digest and whether this tactic, if a tactic, will be successful remains to be seen...Definitely not necessarily an unqualified successful tactic imo!

"I saw a Dell and a Gateway Commercial over the weekend selling P4 systems from $799 to $899 ( probably 1.3s ). They were followed by a Compaq commercial trying to sell a celeron for that price. Guess what? NO ONE will buy the celeron because they can get a P4."

Why not, doesn't the celeron outperform the p4? ggg.

"The Athlon/Duron is out too because it's not even mentioned in the commercials. I am afraid Compaq will be squeezed by the cheap P4's and it might eventually go the GTW/DELL route. AMD has to advertise ( the sooner the better, I prefer that they help out the OEM's by immitating the intel inside campaign than wasting money on silly train commercials ). Also, release 1.5Ghz Tbirds even if it's a limited release. And the palomino will have to come out at 1.7Ghz not 1.5Ghz. Intel made anything clocked at less than 1.7Ghz very cheap."

AMD's market share, given exising marketing methods, has increased quite dramatically over the past 2 years...INTC's P4 promotions with their blue men and orange pipes has been a major flop as far as I can ascertain...INTC has no choice but to offer P4's at "loss leader" pricing in attempt to move market to the P4, the product upon which INTC's future depends...Athy to date has demonstrated remarkable success...P4 to date has not come close to meeting INTC market acceptance expectations...From my perspective, INTC is clearly on the defensive owing to the P4's problematic acceptance and as part of the defense, are now like a wounded animal thrashing about in attempt to ward off the evil AMD force by introducing ridiculously low P4 pricing and perhaps buying off the N/A corporate channels of distribution.
