Plus two or three celsius seems safe - during the "climatic optimum" around 4000 BC temperatures were that much higher than now and during previous interglacials maybe a little more. So the system has been stressed that way in the recent past and not failed catastrophically it would seem. Sure there are differences now due to all these people on the planet and that the forcing is due to our activity but all the same. But you are right going beyond that kind of range is getting into territory that hasn't recently been tested and unexpected things could happen.
