Dan, Re: "Are you absolutely certain Intel will maintain its lead in power consumption in notebooks?"

I believe that Intel will have the lowest power consumption with Tualatin, and AMD will have the highest performance with Barton. I don't think Mobile Pentium 4 will be able to hit low enough power consumption at high enough clock speeds to be performance competitive with the Athlon 4 at the time. But if I were half as optimistic as you are over AMD, I might believe otherwise.

"Are you absolutely certain AMD's substantially better performing SMP machines won't seriously damage Intel's server business?"

Unless there is a drastic change, I am certain that AMD cannot penetrate the server market as they are now.

"Intel was absolutely certain its 1.13GHZ PIII was a winner and it was absolutely certain its rambus chipsets were winners and it was absolutely certain that the MTH was a reliable product."

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. For every launch there is a calculated risk. Intel's mistake was to release these products despite the high risk factor. I believe they were all due to pressures from the competition, but no matter how hard you try or think you can, you can't read the minds of management.

"just be sure you're "absolutely certain" that you know every detail about what will transpire over the next several quarters"

I'm not absolutely sure, Dan, but I know that you often pretend to be. You are the absolute epidemy of a FUDster. All you do is sit around and cook up theories on how Intel can possibly fail due to increasingly dwindling probabilities of an AMD comeback.
