The S&P 500 (or for that matter, even the Total Stock Market Index) is mostly a large-cap growth index. So, I don't think it is going to do too well in the coming decade.

An interesting mix going forward would be half and half in VEXMX (Extended Market Index) and VISVX/IJS (S&P Smallcap 600 value). You can find info about these in indexfunds.com
