Via P4X266 launches theinquirer.net

And Mad Mike Magee rounds up some reviews. The most interesting bit I saw was the second bar graph in zdnet.de , labeled "cache performance", where the Via/DDR system beats the 850/RDRAM system, 268 cycles to 320 in L2 miss time and 197 to 237 in L2 replacement. In most application benchmarks, the via chip seems to come in pretty even with the 850, I'd guess the better latency compensates for the lesser bandwidth.

Intel may or may not sue Via, but I imagine the 845 with DDR will work at least as well as the Via chipset. Carl's DRDRAM diagnosis looks pretty inevitable here. Looks to be a matter of months, not years.
