Ah - but at the time Ireland was ruled as part of the UK Ah - but the Irish were not at all happy with that. Not as unhappy as they would become after the Brits intentionally almost let them starve to death, but still unhappy. The Irish were a major contingent in the American revoluionary army and happily so. The looked at the British as being - guess what - an invading colonial power.
