Lets pick this one apart. Maybe you'll be able to see some other view points.

Maybe this will happen to you some day then you can remember how you defended the rich paying lower taxes when our taxes are already the lowest of any western country. We'll I'm sort of self educated in that I had to pay my own way to college and changed jobs to work for a company that paid for my Masters in Science (yup in Taxation). I know what its like to have to hit into my savings to make payroll as customers string out payments. I've seen clients borrow to the hilt to purchase material and then fail as they can't pay off the loans in time. These people take an inordinate amount of risk but you want to curtail the reward so they don't take the risk.

The so called rich are already paying a disproportionate amount of the tax burden. Remember its the top 5% that pay 80% of the income tax (I think the top 50% pay 95% but I don't have my stats handy).

It's bad karma saying what you're saying. If you're ever in need and the government won't help you because it's broke then you can just blame yourself. I've been in need before and I've taken the hard work and sacrifice route versus the government. The liberal side of government takes the approach this is a good program and don't worry about the cost. Well I worry about the cost.

Would you want the millions of unemployed and their children to go hungry? Get no medical check-ups?

two part answer

1) We'll the unemployed can become employed with an employer who provides medical insurance. Of course the main issue keeping people unemployed is lack of education and skills. Unfortunately we have many systems in place which encourage acts that impede obtaining the necessary education and skills. Correct me if I'm wrong but as a democrat aren't you one of the ones encouraging these acts?

2) We'll I pay just under 10k a year for my own medical insurance (yes in effect I have to generate 13k in revenue to cover annual medical) and the problem here is not this bill of rights bs. The average employee has no clue as to the cost of this benefit (watch as companies start to curtail benefits going forward due to the cost). The system is broken and needs to be fixed. I remember when my parents did not have health insurance and paid for our visits. I don't know the answer here. I doubt the government solution will be the best and adding attorneys to the mix may be better from an accountability standpoint but it will raise the cost higher than its proponents predict. Higher cost will have a negative impact. Watch for the curtailment of many beneifts just to limit the expense.

Look at homeless people, for instance. Why they did suddenly appear 20 years ago? because Reagan kicked hundreds of thousands out of mental hospitals, cut the programs. No you miss a major one here. The welfare system created under the Johnson administration created a huge uneducated group. Its from this group that the majority of the homeless come from. What Reagan did was try and force them to take on some responsibility for their actions. Not saying it was completely right but he had to start some where.

As for deregulating the S&Ls unfortunately we saw too much of the darker side of human nature come out here. Hey Keating even won a gold medal for the US. Even McKain was caught up with Keatings S&L. What some fail to realize is a good part of the 100B went back into the economy. The S&L's did loan the money out but they went into worthless projects. Agree plenty was swindled but all the principles saw what maybe 100M or 1%. The rest was used to pay salaries and create work.

I've posted before (proabably to you) about auditing some of the social programs under Carter (job programs with the last oil crisis related recession). They were a total waste of tax payers money. People just shifting papers all day. No incentives to learn skills to help obtain employment in the private sector. When the program $$ ran out they were in the same boat.

And meanwhile let the very rich get out of paying their taxes and can invest in a new yacht or two which their accountant can figure out a way to write off? Its been tough (not impossible though) to take a boat write off since one of the Reagan tax acts. Most of the rich will put their money to use back in the economy. Even if its buying a new boat the boat manufacturer and his suppliers had to produce the boat. This put the $$ into the private economy vs. the government side.

What type of boat can be bought for $600?
