Out of curiosity, what would happen to decide a 'draw' at the top of the NFL or AFL (it is those two who go forward to Superbowl, isn't it?)? Similar criteria?

The NFC and AFC (which used to be an independent league called the AFL but which is now a conference of the NFL) have playoffs to determine who gets to go to the superbowl. The division champions in each of 6 divisions (three in each conference) make the playoffs so do three wild card teams from each conference (the three teams the have the best records out of the teams that did not win their division). To determine best record for the division champions or wild cards first (and obviously) you look at won lost records. If they are the same you look at head to head play. If you still have a tie then you look at division record (if they are in the same division) then conference record and then other factors. For details you can look at

The 9th factor to decide who gets to the playoffs is a coin toss but it has never been used.

Once you make the playoffs its just win and go on, lose and go home. If you are tied at the end of regulation you play sudden death overtime. In the regular season if no one scores in OT you get a tie, but in the playoffs you play another overtime and so on until there is a winner.
