Asia Global Crossing Launches Data Services Offerings in Australia

- Deployment of IP node in Sydney extends Asia Global Crossing's services platform
- Multinational enterprises to benefit from more cost-effective data services

SYDNEY, Australia, Aug. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Asia Global Crossing, the leading pan-Asian telecommunications services provider, launched its telecommunications services platform here today, introducing into the market a suite of data services that will allow multinational enterprises in Sydney to benefit from the performance and cost-effectiveness of the 200-city Asia Global Crossing/Global Crossing worldwide network.

Asia Global Crossing announced its entry into the Australian market with the strategic acquisition of the Asia Pacific operations of IXnet and IPC last month. The acquisition is set to accelerate Asia Global Crossing's data services business plan and make Australia the company's third largest market for data services.

The acquisition added more than 140 multinational companies to Asia Global Crossing's current roster of data services customers and a further 40 points of presence (POPs) in 11 countries throughout the region, including a network operating center in Sydney. Asia Global Crossing expects to generate more than $US100 million in incremental commercial data services revenue over the next 24 months as a result of the transaction.

This appears to be a transfer from GX since it acquired IXnet and IPC last year. It looks like AX is being positioned to be a standalone operation in Asia loosely connected to GX. This might be looked upon more favorably by Asian governments. JMHO
