The team that gets the ball first at the beginning of the game is also determined by a coin toss, or more accurately the team that gets to pick their choice of being on offense or defense or choosing or defense or choseing which side of the field to defend.

But of course that usually has less impact on who wins the game.

This doesn't apply to the other American sports where you have a face off, or a jump ball, or in baseball where you just continue alternating being at bat or in the field like you did before the normal number of innings ended in a tie.
