I sure hope there won't be a war. A regional war is what Arafat would love best, and he has been trying to whip one up. The Arab street (always emotional) has been inflamed. What Arab leaders say about him in private must be wholly unprintable.

So far, the Arab countries have contributed only rhetoric and money to the cause -- and I've noticed that the money goes to Hamas or charities, not to the PA (everyone knows that money that goes to the PA winds up in Swiss Bank accounts). A real war would be very expensive for them. No Soviet sugar daddy this time to replace losses.

Sharon wants the collapse of the PA, but not a regional war. So far he's been careful and measured in his reactions to terror attacks so as not to spark one off. Of course if the PA were dumb enough to start fighting a conventional war by themselves, I think it would suit Sharon fine.
