Scholastic Inc. Signs Distribution Agreement With CUC Software;
Scholastic 1997 CD-ROM Titles Will Be Distributed to Retail by
CUC Software

NEW YORK, June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Scholastic Inc. (Nasdaq: SCHL), the
world's leading publisher of children's media, today announced a distribution
agreement with CUC Software to distribute Scholastic's upcoming consumer
software CD-ROM titles to the retail market. Scholastic will continue to
distribute its titles through the Scholastic Book Clubs, Scholastic Software
Clubs, Scholastic Book Fairs, and through its school marketing channels.
"CUC Software is one of the largest PC consumer software groups in the
world and will provide Scholastic with leverage in a competitive retail
software marketplace," said Ruth Otte, Executive Vice President, Scholastic
Inc. "Combining CUC Software's distribution expertise with Scholastic's high-
quality and educationally solid children's interactive products will enable
both parties to reap the benefits of this collaboration."
The first two CD-ROM titles debuting under the new relationship are
"I SPY" and the first title in the Scholastic Early Learning series, "HUGGLY'S
SLEEPOVER," each of which will be released this October and showcased
June 19-21, 1997 at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Atlanta, Georgia.
