"Mobile Satellite System-Lessons Learned"

The Society of Satellite Professionals (SSPI), with the Mobile Satellite Users Association (MSUA), sponsored a panel discussion, "Mobile Satellites: Lessons Learned" on March 21 at the Intelsat headquarters in Washington, DC.
<snip>
A lot of gloomy post mortems from ex-officers of (old) Iridium, Orbcomm, Motient and (old) ICO. Many mistakes admitted, except by the FCC, which (of course) considers it did everything right.
Favorite quote:
"When asked whether the failure of American Mobile Satellite Corp. (now Motient) to attract consumer users for cellular fill-in service, as it had originally intended to provide, Carson Agnew, Motient executive, replied in jest that he thought American Mobile had simply proved, for less money, that the Iridium market did not exist."
The meeting reported took place in late March, but this is the first mention of it I've seen on the web. |
