I called the company this week and tried to get an idea if they were happy with the product demand. I got no feedback positive or negative. Mr. Grillo would not comment at all on how this quarter is shaping up.
There are some positive signs, the recent insider buying being a good sign, but there are some troubling long term signs for the entire remote access business in my opinion. In PC WEEK page 103 there is an article on Microsoft's Steelhead initiative, Microsoft is now giving away the steelhead software which allows a NT server to do mid level routing. The article was very positive on this but left open the possiblilty that those with mission critical connections might still want to use a seperate router. I recently put in an NT network and can attest that it is pretty solid, I see Microsoft grabbing a good share of the SOHO market with the steelhead initiative.
I am not tuned in enough to the overall networking industry to say how it will affect OpenROUTE/Proteon, I do think they should have a chance at profitability this quarter but long term maybe it is time to look for a partner? Has anyone else got any feed back from the company or other sources on how the company is doing?
