X, have you read Ellis's "Founding Brothers" ? It got me interested in the personal history of the fathers, I hadn't really known much beyond high school history before. So far, almost everyone has risen in my estimation except for Jefferson. Adams, Franklin, Washington all saw the slavery problem on the horizon, Jefferson blamed it all on King George. Poor Adams, dumped on by Hamilton's Federalists and his Vice President Jefferson's nascent Republicans in equal measure. Lonely at the top must have been his song.
