I can't say that this article shows much insight or perspective. It strikes me as something that was written more for the headlines than for the content.

For starters, the index is up 84%, even now, and so stockholder value has hardly been erased.

Plus, as noticed, no small part of these losses were paper losses due exactly to the unprecented rise and fall leading to "goodwill" write-downs from acquisitions, i.e., the loss is no more real than the asset was when it was booked.

Not to mention that the fate of the market overall is not the same as the fate of individual companies. A rising tide may raise all ships, but it doesn't follow that on a flat sea that all ships arrive at the destination at the same speed or with the same cargo.
