Some little fuss has been made in the popular media about the governments current tax relief kick back. I don't follow this but did a rough calc and came up with an estimate of about $75 Billion in liquidity, primarily spread among the working poor and middle class. It'll help but its not a huge mind-numbing number. Along those lines I noticed today that prices at the pump where I gas up are down about $.25 a gallon. Pulling out the calculator again, I came up with an estimated $33 B that will be diverting from paying for gasoline to other parts of the economy over the next year if this sort of price reduction is reflected across the country. Again, no great shakes but it'll help as well. Baby steps but steps nonetheless.

The next 60 days are the worst time of the year, psychologically, for markets. Perhaps this season will be more benign than most, given the rout the Naz sustained in the past 12 months. Today I noticed a lot of tech stocks turned upwards towards the end of the day maybe on hopes of a Greenspan, Irrationally Depressed speech next week?
