Sigh....Only when running old code. On new code the Athlon is left in the dust. Why is this so hard to comprehend?

Unfortunately, there is not much new code out there.

Hit the Samplitude and other news groups for the reports of real world digital audio performance running the latest software.

Currently all 4 of my networked computers are Intel, and it all works well. I just need more horsepower for a DAW, and the Intel is weak here, unles one unleashes the buck for a 2 gig P4 with RDRAM. Not sure the SDRAM MB Intel is planning will cut it. Perhaps DDR will help. But then, I I pony up for the top end Intels, It does not leave much left for other audio needs. (believe me, it is worse than a boat).

I could go Athlon, but need a power supply worthy of Manhattan and a heat sink the size of the polar ice cap.

So, I'll probably wait for an Intel solution and see if they can deliver...

But, if Athlon keeps droppin in price....

I guess one could call it a fire sale...I can afford a good heat sink and cooling system.
