I think you missed the point of the previous discussion. I think all would acknowledge that the religious right is to the right of the Rep. party generally speaking. They are organized and powerful, down to the grassroots level. By comparison, there is a much smaller religious "left" to the left of the Dem party which has much less influence over party politics. Picking a single issue like abortion misses the point because there certainly are mainstream pro-choice republicans.
