offshore mfg trend started in 1980
it accelerated throughout late 80's and early 90's
went even further in response to Asian Meltdown in 1997-98

yes, that is why I said "it continues"

what I see now in US mfg base is perhaps more a dying process than continued hollowing
the mfg capacity utilization is lower than during last recession

unsure of what it all means
the 1980's offshore move was good for the US economy
what I see now is good for nobody

gotta admit, what I read in recent "Business Week" issues is real high quality business journalism
the New Economy is NOT dead
and Telecom DeRegulation needs some big fixes

but the indigestion during transition is tough
post-dereg roadkill is widespread
balance sheets and personal portfolios are devastated
but future opportunities still exist left & right
