The abstract meaning may be that Bill, but I have only seen the term use to finger people who clearly are not experiencing a fear factor.

If a band of gays were chasing a person down a blind ally with whips and chains and chanting some spell to convert him, he would probably experience fear. This kind of thing does not represent a phobia unless people actual go around imagining and believing this type of episode is likely to occur in ordinary circumstances. There may even be some people who have this level of abnormal fear. If so, I doubt they are in the mainstream and I doubt that this is their only problem.

Nope...the term is only bandied about by desperate people to intimidate and deceive. Let's get back to reality Alphie, its a cluckism, as JLA said.
