<Sly dog Mikey is playing both sides of the fence...

Dell is killing tier-one OEMs in business PCs where AMD doesn't even compete. Mikey is shouting on every corner that it's because of his wonderful build-to-order system. But in the back of the OEMs minds there is a conviction that Dell is getting sweet deals on Intel CPUs.

And here lies a problem for Intel. Now that IBM is also AMD-free they may demand the same sweet deals that Mikey gets, which if granted may get Mikey upset.

Now imagine for a second if GTW, HP and Compaq drop AMD. AMD will shutdown FAB-25, cut other costs and break-even on tier-2, 3, white box and DIY sales of around $700M a quarter. Intel on the other hand will have to give everybody sweet deals, further eroding ASP. Mikey will be the first to jump ship as his advantage evaporates and announce an AMD laptop win.

The point is that even the worst case scenario is not going to kill AMD and may actually result in OEMs going back in droves, as they start to loose market share to tier-2, 3 and white box makers.
