Good post, Jay.

Hmmm. I want to say this, but at the same time, I don't.

I think - weird to say this, but true - I honestly think I've found out what "caused" the Great Depression.

I didn't think of this by myself, I read in a book written in 1932, just a chapter, almost as an afterthought, but as I read it, I realized that the writer had put together and synthesized all the major elements except for population movements, climate, and most political decisions. I think, though, that the major elements are covered.

Dang it, though, I wound up having to amend the 1997 state taxes, which required me to haul out of storage the 1993 and 1992 taxes, for goodness' sake, so it's seemingly never ending. I picked up this book because I got an overdue notice from the library, and thought I'd read a bit before I had to return it, and was astonished to see what I had been looking for. Truly elegant.

Now what? I am still swamped with other things, work, family, taxes (2000 US done, 2000 Va. done, 1999 US done, 1999 Va. done, 1997 US done, 1997 Va. done, 1998 US done, 1998 Va. still doing but almost done). I will try scanning it to see if I can email it as an attachment to anyone who wants it - but not sure how it will be received by someone who hasn't been immersed in the rest of it.

Don't mean to be mysterious but the best I can say is that the explanation fits all the facts in a way that's not earth-shattering, but very satisfying.
