As you know by now, Metricom turned off their network on Wednesday evening this week and began the process of selling off their company. See this news story for compete details: ZDTV NEWS They left all their customers hanging on to worthless modems that can not talk to each other without one of these poletop routers - every modem made since the earliest model has lacked the ability to talk to other modems directly since they wanted to make sure you were dependent on their system to operate. This makes all the hardware investment of all their customers totally worthless. You're bidding on ONE pole-top router removed from the now defunct ricochet network. This router was installed on the antenna tower at my house which served as a path into an area that ricochet did not have coverage. Metricom had an agreement to pay me a monthly fee for running the unit and failed to make their last several payments when they ran out of money. I called them and asked when I'd get my check and if they wanted their wireless router back and they said "keep it - no money". I tried calling their 800# on the unit itself to give them one last chance to reclaim it - no answer. So here it is on ebay! These are very rare as most are installed on city streetlights and can only be removed with a bucket truck or other climbing aparatus. Here's your chance to buy one now and own a small piece of history. This unit is sold for display purposes only. I have no way of testing it or knowing if it works, as there are no lights or diagnostic capabilities on the exterior of the unit. I only guarantee that this item will hold down papers if placed on top of them, since turning off their network effectively made every modem a $100 paperweight. I have no knowledge of how these operate except how to wire the AC to them. I will provide you with a wiring diagram, or the high bidder will have the option to purchase the mating plug that I have. The power connector is an expensive mil-spec part ($25+)if you have to buy it.
