I just saw an American bald eagle at a Seattle lake....the first time in the flesh. It was awesome...videos nor the Discovery channel shows do these birds justice. This particular one was a fledging...probably less than 8 mos. old and did not have his adult feathers. The only other way to describe the bird besides huge or extraordinary or awesome is that he appeared regal and fearless. Its clear why its our national bird.

This one was young but totally oblivious to the crowd that had formed beneath him. The only thing that would catch his eye were the planes flying far above him. And then when he leapt up to fly..his wingspan was amazing and he took off with such grace...you could not help but be moved. The only other time I had this kind of reaction was when I was surfing and a dolphin jumped repeatedly over my board.

If you haven't to date, I hope you all will get a chance to see either sometime in the future. Both creatures are amazing.
