<Ford/GM are reluctant to improve their gasoline mileage and show they have the capability of doing so, as they fear Congress will mandate they do so. It concerns them that perhaps consumers will not be able to calculate that the $500 or so the better fuel economy (and better performance) costs them will easily pay for itself in a couple of years>

from OE's latest PR....Mr. Schlunke noted that the test vehicle did not include all of the latest developments of the OCP system. ``With the incorporation of these latest developments this single technology change could deliver fuel economy benefits of up to 20%, while cost effectively meeting the foreseeable emissions requirements of the United States, Europe and Japan. With further engine and vehicle related enhancements we will exceed the threshold to qualify for Alternative Motor Vehicle Credits under the new US energy bill.''

A SUV using 1,000 gallons a year with the OE System would use 750 gallons with the OE system plus "vehicle related enhancements" At $2 a gallon the payback is one year, and you get a tax credit.
GM needs to do something dramatic to regain sales momentum. I'm in the car market, and don't even look at their ads.

<They also recognize that some people think that better mileage equates to poorer performance.>

Are any OE equipped cars on the NASCAR circuit?

Ford Focus Station wagons seem to be hard to come buy. Ford would be wise to can that production planner along with the other 5,000.

Jack Nasser is from down under. Why is he not nipping? They could sell more Lincoln Town Cars with a 20% mileage improvement.
