Not a very flattering article. Since there are no committed @HOME bulls or bears here yet since the stock doesn't yet trade, perhaps this is a good time to undertake an objective discussion of the CATV industry and the relative merits of the various players. I think we are all quite bullish about the potential of cable for delivering fast internet and telephony. It is no secret that the entire industry is moving toward HFC and that it will eventually offer video dialtone as well as fast internet. A number of SI participants have been lucky enough to be among the initial users of these cable modem systems and all that I have spoken with have praised them, whether they were supplied by Adelphia, Cox, TWX, @Home, UMG or others. So how is an investor to choose which horse to bet on? Or does it matter? Does anyone think there is some unrecognized potential in one player versus another? Anyone care to offer some metrics to show that one stock is a compelling buy compared to another? Since the usual metrics don't apply to these heavily debt laden companies, I look forward to seeing what people come up with to defend their choices.
