wanna: But at some point, megahertz may not remain the best metric for consumers. Right now, Intel should be bringing some attention to this possibility in advance.

MHz is NOT the best metric right now, but it is certainly in Intel's favor to retain the perception that it is.

The absolute earliest that AMD can do anything that would threaten Intel's reliance on the "MHz perception" is with Hammer - i.e. in the 2nd half of next year. And that's providing everything goes as planned and that AMD has actually focused on operating frequency improvements - and not just improvements in performance.

As long as Intel holds the "MHz lead", they should do anything and everything they can to support the consumers' perception that operating frequency is a good and valid measure of "speed".
