Thanks for such a nice, concise post PMG, but I guess that's where I have a problem -
Pac Bell mailed this stuff out, expecting idiots like me to have no problem with installation. <g>

1. turn off everything
Did that! <g> Even turned off fire wall, anti-virus stuff, etc,

2. plug the DSL Modem to the phone line
did that

3. plug your network cable into the DSL Modem- ?
What do you mean by network cable? <ggg>

4. unplug your Cable modem from the network
did that

5. check what kind of network cable you need for the connection of you DSL to you USB-NIC (normal or cross-pin?)
HUNH????????

6.if you have a hub, you have to do the same check. You can try to use the uplink port to simulate a cross-pin cable.

from there on, I don't know what you are talking about <VBG>

All I know is that I hit the " fix" button recommended and windows crashed.
