Company History
Aludra was incorporated on June 24, 1997 and began operations as a full-service graphic design and multimedia firm. It expanded its services to include media solutions for Internet applications in 1998.
Clients included AOL (software development), Mattel (software development), Paramount (software development), Activision (software development), ADP (multi-media), TD Waterhouse (commercial animation), Toronto Maple Leafs (commercial animation), Headline Sports Cable Channel (broadcast design), and Tridel (promotional video).
In January of 2000, The Beauty Supply Outlet, a 35-store retail franchise chain founded in 1993, commissioned Aludra to design a point of sale software solution because they were unhappy with their existing system and were not impressed with other available solutions. Aludra's solution, called ProPOS was first deployed at The Beauty Supply Outlet in October of 2000.
This initial exposure to the retail industry caused Aludra to take note of the huge opportunity that existed for anyone taking an enterprise resource planning approach to store systems. In November of 2000, the decision was made to move forward with the development of an integrated retail solution utilizing the latest technology. Faisal Nasir, previously Director of Information Technology at Hospitality Solutions International, subsequently joined Aludra in January of 2001 with a team of developers that was given the mandate to develop this product.
Aludra's comprehensive retail solution was first unveiled at the Retail Tech Show in late June, 2001 in Chicago. Response from North American retailers was overwhelming, with a number of America's best-known retailers expressing interest in Aludra's retail solution. This reaction confirmed Aludra's assessment of the market potential for this product line. In July, 2001, Aludra made the decision to focus all of its efforts on its retail technology solution and to phase out all of its other existing lines of business.
