Texans accused of trafficking in women The authorities in the United States say a research assistant at the University of Texas and his wife have been arrested on charges of trafficking in women from Uzbekistan. American officials said the couple, Sardar and Nadira Gasanov, had held at least three women in what amounted to slavery by forcing them to work as exotic nude dancers seven days a week. The officials say the number of victims could be much higher. The couple is said to have lured the women to the US with promises of extravagant lifestyles as professional models.
