It's a conservative position as opposed to a 'progressive' one, but 'conservative' means, in this case, nothing to do with George Bush; it means that it's part of a complex of traditional, religious, folk beliefs about the potency of innocent young life for creating good luck; in 'muti,' a type of ritualistic traditional medicine, children are commonly the victims of propitiatory sacrifice.
