Perhaps you have forgotten. What brees claimed was that X has "repeatedly mentioned how distasteful" such things as "truth, justice, human values or principles" are to her. I asked all brees fans to produce one such "mention" by X. It turned out that not only had X not "mentioned" her "distaste" for such things as "truth, justice, and human values" repeatedly; she had not done it ever, not even once. If you think quotation marks are needed to make something qualify as a quote, you are misinformed. It is exactly as though I posted on SI that JLA had frequently mentioned his distaste for the very concept of equal justice before the law. You might well ask me why I had lied in that way; you would say you had never said any such thing; and any arguments made by me and my friends (though I hope my friends wouldn't be so ignominious or stupid) to the effect that such a 'conclusion' was warranted on the basis of your defenses of the death penalty in spite of its unequal application would appear to you ignominious or stupid. And you would be right.
