Fiber Optic Industry Leaders Meet This Week to Elect FTTH Council Board, Discuss Broadband Issues
ROCHESTER, New York (August 20, 2001) – The Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council will meet in Rochester, New York for the first time on Thursday, August 23, beginning its initiatives to promote fiber optic broadband access throughout North America. Guest speaker Thomas Cohen, executive director of Americans for the Digital Bridge, will discuss FTTH issues and opportunities.
Business to be conducted at the meeting will include election of a board of directors, approval of bylaws and appointment of legal counsel for the FTTH Council.
Forty-six companies have joined forces in the FTTH Council, including equipment manufacturers, integrators and service providers. The FTTH Council charter is to promote and accelerate the deployment of fiber-to-home broadband access in North America.
“The abundance of telecommunications capacity ends abruptly just short of customers’ homes,” said Donna Keegan, FTTH Council executive director. “Our charter is to extend broadband to the home, where people can benefit from greater content and services. We have had overwhelming interest from equipment manufacturers and service providers, and we look forward to this first meeting to kick-start our initiatives.”
FTTH Council members represent all areas of broadband industries, including telecommunications, computing, networking, system integration, and content-provider companies, as well as traditional telecommunications service providers, utilities, municipalities, and real estate developers.
